Times/Review Newsgroup honored six students from local high schools with a journalism award Thursday evening. The students were presented certificates and $100 scholarships during a reception at the paper’s office in Mattituck. (more…)

Joanie and George Mottern celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary at a brunch May 19 at Meeting House Creek Inn. They were surprised by their daughters, Jennifer and Sara, family and friends and members from their wedding party — Marie and Jimmy Barnes, Theresa Foley, Penny Czletka and Eddie Reeve. The McGann-Mercy Theater Company will present Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller beginning Thursday night in the school auditorium. The show runs through Saturday with start times of 7:30 p.m.  (more…)

I’ll never forget that day in Babylon in the fall of 1998. I was a senior at Mercy High School, playing in one of the final football games of the season, and we were getting our tails kicked in. At halftime the score was so obscenely lopsided that if forfeiting didn’t carry such universal shame, I’m sure most of my teammates would have elected to pack up, get on the bus and head back to Mercy. At several points during a nearly two-hour meeting last week between McGann-Mercy High School administrators and parents of football team members, principal Carl Semmler reiterated that his decisions put the best interests of the students first.
