A banner that reads “Celebrate Bob Furlong Day!” has proudly hung in Shirley Price-Furlong’s living room for a year.
On Saturday, it adorned the field at Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton once again to honor her husband, Bob Furlong, who shared the general managership for the Riverhead Tomcats of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League with Patti White until he lost his battle with leukemia. He died Feb. 14 at age 58.
Patti White had successfully pulled it off. Bob Furlong was thoroughly surprised, she said.
On a hot July Sunday afternoon last summer, White successfully orchestrated Bob Furlong Day at Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton. Bob Furlong has a lot of people in his corner in his fight against leukemia. That much was evident Sunday on Bob Furlong Day when admirers and friends came to Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton to pay tribute to Furlong and the work he has done for the club as general manager. READ
