UPDATE (3 p.m.): A Baiting Hollow man accused of breaking into the clubhouse of a mobile home park in Calverton Monday morning before clogging a toilet with food is being held on $25,000 bail after prosecutors revealed the man’s history of arrests and failures to appear in court.

Nicholas Williams, 33, was charged with felony burglary. At his arraignment Tuesday morning, prosecutors said Mr. Williams has a 23-page history of run-ins with the courts and has failed to appear four times.

Mr. Williams was issued a grand jury notice, indicating he may be brought up on county charges soon.

Original Story: Police said a Baiting Hollow man rummaged through the clubhouse of a mobile home park in Calverton yesterday morning before clogging a toilet with food, damaging the boiler room ceiling.

According to Riverhead Police, someone at Calverton Meadows called shortly after 10 a.m. to report that a stranger had entered the park’s clubhouse, also using the space to sleep. The man reportedly attempted to flush food down the toilet, forcing it to overflow.

Police shortly identified the suspect as 33-year-old Nicholas Williams, who was later found by authorities to be walking down Osborn Avenue just before 10 p.m. last night.

Mr. Williams was arrested, charged with third-degree burglary — a felony — and held for arraignment this morning.

“No one was more surprised in that courtroom than me.”

Not typical words coming from a defense attorney, moments after one of his client’s cases ended.

Just before potential jurors were set to enter the courtroom, a Riverhead taxi driver — 29-year-old Howard Ferebee Jr. — accused of being the getaway man in a Horton Avenue burglary last year, pleaded guilty to a lower charge Thursday afternoon in a bizarre court appearance that lasted nearly 20 minutes as the defendant peppered the judge and his attorney with questions.
