Riverhead Community Awareness Program’s annual Say NO to Drugs March was forced indoors Friday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea was dumping rain across town.
CAP’s 28th installment of the event was held in the Pulaski Street School auditorium, but students were as enthusiastic as ever, waving handmade signs as if they were in the streets and catching the attention of passing cars.
Members of Stony Brook University women’s lacrosse team, winners of the 2013 America East championship, were this year’s honored guests and keynote speakers.
“We are honored and humbled to have been asked to be a part of Riverhead CAP’s Say NO to Drugs March,” said head coach Joe Spallina, who was named Synapse Division I National Coach of the Year last week. “The student-athletes on the Stony Brook Women’s Lacrosse Team understand the importance of taking care of their bodies, which includes saying no to substance abuse.
“We look forward to showing members of the community how living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle can help them achieve their goals.”
