The doors are closed at Cody’s BBQ and Grill as the owners reportedly look to sell the restaurant.

Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter confirmed the owners are trying to find a buyer for the Main Street restaurant.

Manager and co-owner Vic Prusinowski did not immediately return calls for comment, and no one picked up the phone at Cody’s.

The restaurant was vacant Friday afternoon, a time when staff would normally be gearing up for its weekly 70s, 80s and 90s dance party. The previous night, the bar and restaurant was also closed, its popular game night cancelled.

The restaurant opens up on Wednesday through Sunday at noon and closes at 10 p.m.

Mr. Prusinowski— a former councilman — would often host Riverhead republican gatherings at Cody’s, including last year’s election night. On Friday Mr. Walter, a Republican, expressed disappointment about its closing.

“I enjoyed it,” he said, adding that he is not sure if the eatery would reopen before another owner is found.

Cody’s opened in the summer of 2011 in the space formerly occupied by Casa Rica, which was forced to close by the New York State Liquor Authority after repeated violent incidents at the bar.

Cody’s BBQ & Grill in Riverhead has postponed its first-ever barbecue cook-off, which was originally scheduled for this Saturday afternoon.

But it’s still a go for a free country western concert and “hoedown”  at 6 p.m. behind the Main Street restaurant Saturday evening.

Cody’s co-owner Vic Prusinowski said Friday that many people who would have liked to come to the cook-off called to say they couldn’t make it because there’s a similar barbecue in Manorville on Sunday and they couldn’t attend both. He said he plans to reschedule the event for the fall.

Grand champion pit-master Konrad Haskins of Austin, Texas was to oversee the barbecue competition and be a judge along with members of the Riverhead Town Board.

The bands Rattlesnake Dawn, Yankee Rebel and Southbound will still perform at Saturday’s concert.
