Joyce Rienzo, librarian at Riverhead Free Library, was thrilled with the presentation on sidesaddles given Nov. 25 by Aquebogue resident Cathy Springer for the library’s “Horsing Around” program. Ms. Springer is a rider with Smithtown Hunt and has ridden in four presidential inaugural parades. Her husband, Harry, even got to ride in one of them. (more…)

I would like to wish everyone a beautiful Christmas. May it be full of love, laughter and joy. I love that Christmas feeling — the way total strangers smile at each other and extend their greetings. Even though it’s a crazy and frantic time, Christmas makes my heart feel good. I love seeing the little ones trying so hard to be good, knowing that not only is Santa watching but so is that little red elf on the shelf.  (more…)

The sign outside CK Auto in Wading River shows my favorite phrase for this time of year: “Remember the reason for the season.” So many holidays are choked with commercialism and lose their meaning. My daughter had to work Thanksgiving night. I applaud the businesses that refused to open because of the assault on Thanksgiving in favor of Black Friday. Riverhead Central School District deserves congratulations! It raised $5,000 for the Special Olympics at its Polar Plunge event at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai Nov. 22. We are very proud of all of you for representing the district. Awesome job!  (more…)

News from St. Isidore School: Nancy Ryan’s seventh-grade class has started an Advent project to raise money for children in Africa. Also, Father Peter contacted his friend who is a missionary there and asked him to help buy shoes for the children. This is a wonderful time of the year to help those in need.  (more…)
