Despite dark skies and the threat of rain, plenty of people still lined the street and walked the parade route in Jamesport last night at the Annual Jamesport Fire Department Parade.
The event is part of the annual bazaar hosted by the volunteer crew — this year will be the department’s 60th — and runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. through Friday and 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday.

A pedestrian on Main Road was struck by a car last night in Jamesport, according to Jamesport Fire Department 1st assistant chief John Andrejack.
Jamesport Fire Department will award two $750 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. To be eligible, applicants must live within the Jamesport Fire District or be the child of a Jamesport firefighter.
Applications are available from the guidance offices at Riverhead and McGann-Mercy high schools or from the Jamesport Fire Department. Applications must be mailed by April 15 to the fire department, P.O. Box 54, Jamesport, NY 11947.

The Jamesport and Mattituck fire departments ran an ice rescue drill Monday night at the southern end of Mattituck Inlet, where volunteers practiced pulling victims out of a frigid pool of ice dug into the creek.
Mattituck Fire Department Chief Steve Libretto said this winter’s historically cold temperatures have created very thick ice on waterways, making for ideal conditions for these types of drills. (more…)

Jamesport firefighters found this damaged car upon arriving at a crash scene in Jamesport Monday night.
One person was injured after a single-car accident on Main Road Monday night, Jamesport firefighters said.
The crash happened about 9:40 p.m. just west of Tuthills Lane, where firefighters found a heavily damaged vehicle that had driven off the road and was leaking fluid, officials said. (more…)
