Welcome, May and, hopefully, more seasonal weather. I want to do yard work and sit outside and drink my tea in the morning. I’d like to ask Mother Nature to turn up the heat a little. I’m not the only one. Everyone I run into says the same thing: “Where is spring?”  (more…)

Congratulations to Sharon (Bilunas) and Mark Wilinski on the March 6 birth of their son Austin Ryan, weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces. Big brother Adam is very excited to have a baby brother. Grandparents Wanda and Ziggy Wilinski and MaryBeth and Bert Bilunas are also excited about the addition to the family.  (more…)

Thank you, Laura LaSita of Wading River for the “Get Well” card and phone calls that keep me company as I heal from major surgery. There’s nothing in the universe like love. With every pill that every doctor prescribes, they should include “one measure of love.” I think love is not only the healing force that keeps us together but also the force that makes us whole.  (more…)

Spring has sprung!

Volunteers have been diligently working to get Hallockville Museum Farm cleaned up in time for their busy spring season! The annual Spring Tea is this Friday, April 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. A beautiful assortment of delectable savories, sweets and teas will be served in the historic Naugles Barn, to be decorated this year with a display of hand-hooked rugs by local craftspeople; the tables will be adorned with vintage tablecloths and tea sets.  (more…)

If you heard a happy yell Sunday afternoon, that was me. It finally reached 60 degrees. For a minute it seemed like this winter wasn’t ever going to end. Now May is coming, and sometime during the second week I’ll make the trip to Oneonta one last time until August. I don’t mind it really — it’s nice to spend some alone time with my baby girl and catch up. (more…)

Colleen and Jim Marron are getting ready for the competition in Albany on May 2 with the L.I. Sound Chorus, a chapter of the Sweet Adelines International. The group held a retreat in January at St. Josephat’s in Glen Cove, with lots of coaching practice, and its membership drive from January through March was very successful. (more…)

Times Review Media Group, publishers of the Riverhead News-Review, came out on top in the New York Press Association’s 2014 Better Newspaper Contest. Winning 22 awards, the News-Review’s editor, Grant Parpan, is happy to see the hard work of his staff recognized.
