Christine Floege, her two daughters, Autumn and Isabella, her mom, Robin, her granny, Barbara, and her stepfather, John, spent a week in Anchorage, Alaska, in February during the school break. They visited a chocolate factory and a reindeer farm and viewed many beautiful ice sculptures. They also visited the SeaLife Center in Seward. The temperatures were around 45 degrees the entire week and everyone had a wonderful time. (more…)
It seems like it was just yesterday my 10-year-old son’s class from Wading River Elementary School went on a field trip with their teacher, Jacqueline Savelli, to visit Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. Ms. Savelli was passionate about dogs and teaching children that “no kill” shelters need our help to save these beautiful creatures that are an absolute gift to us. When our son came home that day he had told us about a roan-colored pit bull that walked across the backs of all the other dogs to get to him. (more…)

What a nice, warm Sunday we had! I so enjoyed scraping the ice, which had melted a bit, off the driveway. But now we’re skating again, with icy conditions. Snow is good, ice is bad — unless it’s in your glass.
NASCAR is back! Welcome home to those lucky ones who got to attend. (more…)

When North Shore United Methodist Church parishioner Laura Pearsall saw Riverhead Faculty and Community Theatre’s production of “Godspell” three years ago, she had a breakthrough idea. Why not fundraise for the Good Samaritan House building by bringing this production to NSUMC? This past weekend saw the result of that idea as two performances of the musical were held at the church that Glenn Abramowitz described as “awesome” and “awesomer.” Laura dedicated the part she played in the production to the Rev. Susumu Ando. (more…)
OK, I don’t like the ice. Plain ol’ snow is good but this stuff is not my idea of fun. I did, however, finally make some snowmen. Spending time in the snow with two grandchildren, two dogs and one awesome daughter-in-law made last Sunday the best! We had a great time and our “snow family” looks amazing. Go ahead, get out of your chair, bundle up, and create and have some fun. (more…)
