A New York State United Teachers spokesman confirmed Thursday that the union umbrella organization is involved with a protest planned for Tuesday afternoon at the Riverhead Charter School in Calverton.
Riverhead Charter School has been in and out of the local newspapers this year due to allegations of “Union busting.” The local newspapers have done an excellent job with covering these allegations. We commend the media for providing the public with unbiased accounts of the happenings at RCS. (more…)
The union president at the Riverhead Charter School — whose embattled principal has been facing allegations of union busting — was fired on Wednesday, the News-Review has learned.
That teacher, Kasey Wehrheim, is now publicly joining a growing chorus of detractors of the school’s principal and executive director, Ray Ankrum, saying she was targeted because of her work with the union. (more…)
Despite a rough winter, the Riverhead Charter School’s $14.1 million building expansion is on target to meet its goal of being completed by December, and is within its budget, according to Will Recce of School Construction Consultants, who is the construction manager on the project. (more…)

The tensions of a divided school community were on full display at the Riverhead Charter School’s board of trustees meeting Tuesday night.
That meeting ended abruptly, when critics and supporters of principal and executive director Ray Ankrum began screaming at one another about what kind of comments should be allowed at such times — until, finally, the board threw the public out and continued the meeting in private. (more…)
