Riverhead Charter School Superintendent Ray Ankrum has been in charge of the running the K-8 school on Route 25 in Calverton since 2012.

But this year, he’s got another role: traffic control officer.

Mr. Ankrum spends about 45 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes in the afternoon directing traffic outside the school, wearing a bright orange vest and hat over his suit.  READ

Riverhead Charter School has been in and out of the local newspapers this year due to allegations of “Union busting.”  The local newspapers have done an excellent job with covering these allegations. We commend the media for providing the public with unbiased accounts of the happenings at RCS.  (more…)

The union president at the Riverhead Charter School — whose embattled principal has been facing allegations of union busting — was fired on Wednesday, the News-Review has learned.

That teacher, Kasey Wehrheim, is now publicly joining a growing chorus of detractors of the school’s principal and executive director, Ray Ankrum, saying she was targeted because of her work with the union. (more…)

Despite a rough winter, the Riverhead Charter School’s $14.1 million building expansion is on target to meet its goal of being completed by December, and is within its budget, according to Will Recce of School Construction Consultants, who is the construction manager on the project.  (more…)

Regarding “Teachers step up behind charter school principal” by Michael White: Principal Ray Ankrum states in the piece, “My focus is on the top 10 percent of my staff. It’s the 10/80/10 rule of business. The bottom 10 percent will do whatever they can to cause disruption.”  (more…)
