Two days after Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Riverhead Town police offered a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information about a burglary at a house in Jamesport, police say the homeowner is also offering up a “substantial cash reward” for information that leads to the return of the safe, its contents or an arrest.  (more…)

A Riverhead businessman and philanthropist is facing multiple drunken driving charges — including two felonies — after allegedly crashing in the Riverhead High School parking lot Wednesday morning with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit while a teenager was in his SUV, according to town court documents.

Jesse “Bobby” Goodale, who was released on bail after his arraignment Wednesday, admitted to the News-Review that he had been drinking that morning after getting “bad news” and said he would accept the consequences of his “mistake.”

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Riverhead Town police are offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information about a burglary at a house in Jamesport earlier this month.

Police say someone got into a house on Ziemacki Lane on Oct. 12 sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., according to a news release. A safe was stolen from a bedroom in the home, police said.

Riverhead Police have asked anyone with information to contact detectives at (631) 727-4500 ext. 633 or Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Last Tuesday’s shooting in Southold, in which four alleged members of MS-13 attacked two men from a rival gang with guns and a machete, has brought attention to the growing problem of gangs on the East End.

In Riverhead, Riverside and Flanders, gang violence has long been an issue. Town, police and community leaders say they are working together in an attempt to attack the root of the problem.

In Southold Town, gangs are more prevalent than in the past, as changing demographics have brought Latin groups like MS-13 and 18th Street to the East End.  (more…)

A Flanders man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated after he was pulled over on Old Country Road last Monday, Oct. 13, state police said.

Troopers stopped Juan Palacios, 29, near the intersection of Doctors Path, according to a news release. An investigation revealed that he was drunk, police said, and he was arrested at the scene. (more…)

A Roosevelt man was arrested Tuesday after police tracked him down for passing a counterfeit $100 bill at a store in Wading River in July 2013, according to a police news release.

Paul Allen, 24, was charged with felony criminal possession of a forged instrument for allegedly spending the bill at Pool Palace on July 13, 2013.

He was arraigned in Riverhead town court and released on his own recognizance.
