About a decade ago, when Riverhead High School graduate Elizabeth Rather started feeling unusually groggy as a college student at Fordham University, she dismissed it, doubling her efforts in the classroom. But when she began her career at CBS Television in Manhattan, she finally saw a doctor — and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Since then, Friends of Elizabeth has held five fundraisers to help pay for Ms. Rather’s medical costs, allowing her to begin a cutting-edge stem cell treatment for the disease.

The group will hold its sixth annual benefit at Meetinghouse Creek Inn Restaurant in Aquebogue Thursday, July 3, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature food, live music and a silent auction. Tickets cost $55. RSVP by June 26 by calling Lisa Zamber at 808-589-9596.
