The Women’s Equality Act, and specifically, the parts of it dealing with abortion, was a hotly debated issue between the two candidates for the second district state Assembly seat during a debate Monday night at Polish Hall in Riverhead, which was sponsored and moderated by news website RiverheadLocal.com.  (more…)

Tom Schiliro, the Democratic candidate for the Second New York State Assembly District in the Nov. 4 election, will now also be the Independence Party candidate, if the results of Tuesday’s primary hold up.  (more…)

Democrats have chosen a candidate to run against first-term Assemblyman Anthony Palumbo this fall, picking Manorville resident and Suffolk County Park Police sergeant Tom Schiliro.

Mr. Schiliro was one of several people to vie for the Democratic nod last year in the race for an open seat vacated by former assemblyman Dan Losquadro, who had won the race to become Brookhaven Town’s highway superintendent. The party opted to run John McManmon, an Aquebogue resident who was eventually defeated by Mr. Palumbo. (more…)
