LEAGUE III CHAMPIONSHIP
On the bus ride to Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood Sunday, Troy Trent and Andrew Smith spoke to each other about the upcoming meet.
They each vowed to win their main events.
“We both came in today just like, we’re going to come in first,” Trent said. “We’re taking home gold medals. If the team can’t take it overall, we’ll take it for the team.” (more…)

SECTION XI DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIPS
Davion Porter is the relative newcomer to the triple jump. Marcus Moore is the veteran.
Porter is quick to remind his Riverhead teammate of that fact.
“I talk a lot of smack,” said Porter, a senior. “This is my first year doing this. First season ever tripling. And [Moore's] been doing this since middle school.” (more…)

It would be understandable if Meg Tuthill felt a tad overwhelmed at the start of the 800-meter race Monday in the Division III Championships. The McGann-Mercy sophomore stood at the starting line surrounded by some of the top runners on Long Island: the Guevara sisters of Miller Place and Sarah Hardle of John Glenn, who last spring finished sixth in the 800 at the state championship. Saśa Vann, a former Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School athlete, claimed a pair of conference titles as Buffalo State rallied to finish second in the eight-team State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Geneseo. (more…)

As Davion Porter crossed the finish line, an agonizing split second shy of victory, the Riverhead senior collapsed onto the track at East Islip High School. All around him, members of East Islip’s track & field team raced to congratulate their teammate, junior Zach Acocella.
Down the final stretch of the 4 x 400 relay Tuesday afternoon, Porter and Acocella were dead even. At stake was the League IV title. (more…)
