Five people will be running for two Riverhead school board seats

Incumbents Mary-Ellen Harkin and Christine Prete will be challenged by Mary Meyer, Amelia Lantz and Jeffrey Falisi for two three-year terms up for grabs on the Riverhead school board May 18.
Ms. Harkin, 48, of Calverton, is a teacher seeking his fifth three-year term on the board, while Ms. Prete, 54, of Flanders owns a landscaping company and is seeking her third three-year term.
Ms. Lantz, 45, of Riverhead, served 17 years in the U.S. Air Force and ran for the school board last year as well. She’s also active in the district’s Parent-Teacher Organization.
Ms. Meyer, 44, of Calverton, is a teacher who is making her first run for school board. She and her husband, Bob, are co-founders of the Suffolk County 9-12 Project, the local Tea Party political action group whose members have been critical of government spending.
Mr. Falisi, 42, of Calverton, is a retired police officer who is active in youth activities.
