Riley Avenue Elementary School’s science fair went off without a hitch last week — no snow or inclement weather. I will list the winners next week.

The students at Riley recently received a visit from Councilwoman Jodi Giglio and Councilman George Gabrielsen, who read a proclamation acknowledging the students’ dedication and hard work in contacting the International Space Station in February. Congratulations to all who participated.

The whole art department is getting ready for the annual Art-in-Action art show, scheduled for May 7 at 7 p.m. at the high school. This is a great event that goes back many moons and shows off our entire district’s talents in the art field. Do go see some amazing works of art.

To all you bosses who have secretaries (now known as “administrative professionals”), Administrative Professional Day is April 21 and they should be acknowledged. Stop and think how hard life would be without these fine individuals who make your life a whole lot easier at the office. So make their day very special, maybe with some flowers or lunch. Be creative, but do something.

The chipmunks are running wildly around the farm. They have an underground (subway) system of tunnels that I would love to see. One of our more diligent chipmunks managed to remove a walnut from its shell in our garage — not the only treats they help themselves to. Then the little guy tried to drag it down to his hole in the ground — a hole that is dug around cement and grass — but it wouldn’t fit and is stuck. I shall keep you updated on this dilemma. Let’s see if he can make it work.

A very exciting part of spring is upon us: asparagus. Yes, it’s ready and it’s so good. So buy local! We enjoyed fresh, perfect, local spinach the other night. The good food is beginning to arrive, so enjoy.

That is all for this week. Enjoy the spring flowers. My sister and I went to see my daughter Jamie up by Albany this past weekend, and the flowers there are still sleepy. As for the East End, we are bloomin’! Take care, be safe and I shall talk to you next time. Bye.
