first pitch at Flanders Little League’s opening day event
Saturday.

Spencer Shea, a Riverhead Middle School student who was gravely injured in a January car crash, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the 39th annual Flanders Little League opening day ceremony Saturday.
Spencer’s parents, Mike and Kathleen, stood by their son, whose recovery has been described by family and friends as nothing short of a miracle, as the Flanders Burner Service and Suffolk County Title Insurance Company teams stood on the field and applauded
Spencer underwent numerous surgeries after the Jan. 10 crash, in
which his older brother, Luke Shea, then 19, was charged driving while intoxicated. The community had since rallied around the ailing family, holding fundraisers and prayers services throughout town.   Click for video.
