It was 70-plus degrees on Easter Sunday — simply perfect. I hope everyone enjoyed their celebrations and spent some time outside soaking up the warm sun.

Riley Avenue Elementary School is having its science fair, tonight, Thursday, April 8. I will tell you about all the winners next week.

Registration for kindergarten is under way at Riley. If you have a child entering kindergarten, call the office of pupil personnel at 369-6800 to schedule an appointment. After your child is registered, call the school at 369-6805 to schedule a screening.

Toward the end of the month Riley will celebrate Earth Week with all kinds of events. Stay tuned for details.

The Greater Calverton Civic Association will hold its monthly meeting on April 14 at 7 p.m. at Riley. The guest speaker will be Joe Van de Wetering, who will talk about the YMCA. All Calverton residents are welcome to attend.

Happy birthday to Riley principal David Enos on April 10. Mr. Enos is a fun guy who always has a smile for everyone. Have a great day, Mr. Enos, from your family and friends, your students and staff at Riley, and me. Birthday wishes also go to Marissa Medina, an ESL teacher at Pulaski Street School, on April 16, with much love from one and all, especially your aunt Donna, a secretary at Riley.

Happy anniversary to Rosemary and Alex Horton of Manorville as they celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary “either April 8 or April 9,” says Rosemary. All our love to two great people whom I have known for years. Many more years of happiness, from all your family and friends. Congratulations. And Alex, we hope you had a great birthday on April 6. Lots of love and smiles for a truly fun guy.

You can now plant peas, lettuce, onions, spinach and anything else that can tolerate frost, so get going while the ground is dry.

That is all for this week. I hope we can hang onto this warm weather. We don’t need temperatures in the 80s; 60s will be just fine for now. Have a great week, be safe and I shall talk to you later. Bye.
