Car crash victim set to headline Flanders Little League ceremonies

The Riverhead Middle School student who was gravely injured in a January car accident in Riverhead is set to throw out the first pitch at the Flanders Little League opening day ceremonies on Saturday, league officials said.  Eighth grader Spencer Shea’s recovery has been described as nothing short of miraculous by family and friends.
“As the smallest little league on Long Island, we need to always be optimistic for our future and we feel that Spencer is an incredible example of how with optimism anything is possible,” reads an invitation for the 10 a.m event at Iron Point Park in Flanders.
Spencer underwent numerous surgeries after the Jan. 10 crash, after which his older brother, Luke Shea, then 19, was arrested on DWI charges.
