George B. Grodski

George B. Grodski, head mechanic with the Riverhead Town Highway Department, died at his home May 8. He was 55.

A lifelong Riverhead resident, he was born there January 28, 1955, to Ida Grathwohl Grodski and Stephen Grodski, who for many years was chief of police in Riverhead.

Mr. Grodski graduated in 1974 from Riverhead High School and studied for a year and a half at an automotive school in Denver. He worked for the town highway department for 32 years.

Mr. Grodski enjoyed working on old cars and competing at Riverhead Raceway, loved gardening and was often on the water, clamming, fishing or crabbing, according to his family. He was a member of the Riverhead Moose Lodge.

Predeceased by his parents and by his brothers, David in 2004 and Peter in 1997, he is survived by his nieces, Nichole Grodski of Missouri and Suzanne Grodski of New York City, his nephew, Evan Grodski of Missouri, and many cousins in the Riverhead area.

Funeral arrangements were handled by McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Visiting hours are today, Thursday, May 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. where services will be held tomorrow, Friday, May 14, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist R. C. Church cemetery, Riverhead.
