An NBC news crew followed Congressional hopeful Chris Cox as he toured Riverhead’s Main Street and met with local business owners Friday. A staffer said the tour was an NBC exclusive and that Mr. Cox, pictured here in front of Julia’s Pizzeria and Restaurant on East Main Street, would not be able to give an interview.
Mr. Cox will soon open a second campaign office on Main Street in Riverhead, a staffer said. His campaign headquarters is located in Smithtown.
Mr. Cox is one of several Republicans vying to run for the seat currently held by Congressman Tim Bishop (D-Southampton.)
The county’s Republicans did not choose a candidate for the First Congressional District during their convention earlier this year, instead opting for an “open primary.” If more than one would-be candidate files nominating petitions by the July deadline, party members will fill the slot following a Sept. 7 primary election.
