Aquebogue-Jamesport

I hope all of you fathers had a wonderful Father’s Day last weekend! We started our celebrations at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and then had breakfast at Love Lane Kitchen! Later we relaxed with walking and biking on Herrick’s Lane. It was nice to see so many families out in the yards celebrating with picnics and all around fun!

Last week, while my husband and I were riding our bikes on Herrick’s Lane, we met Amanda Gabrielsen and her adorable children, Robert and Ava, who were also out riding bikes! We had a great conversation with Robert Gabrielsen Jr,, who just celebrated his 4th birthday on June 16. Belated best wishes for a very happy birthday to Robert. Keep biking!

We also had the pleasure of attending Dayspring Dance and Performing Arts Center’s “Alice, Classic Twist II” at Living Water Full Gospel Church Theater in Aquebogue. The performance was very creative, fast-paced and energetic, to say the least. The story, written by drama director Nancy McSwaine, was an interesting re-do of the children’s classic, “Alice in Wonderland.” The performance was a stunning combination of jazz, ballet and tap, all tied together with superb acting and hysterical twists and turns in the dialogue! The music included hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, including Aerosmith’s “Dream On” set as the background theme for Alice’s longing for a new life! Congratulations to Helen Herbst, producer, Nancy McSwaine, director, and all the talented performers on a fabulous show!

The next show at Living Waters Church is “God Bless the USA,” to be performed Thursday-Friday, July 1-2, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $5 for military. Call 722-4969, ext. 204.

You all know my 2010 resolution to declutter my home and my life! I am finding more places to donate the things we no longer need. On Saturday, July 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Mattituck, there will be a community yard sale to benefit Maureen’s Haven. Call 727-6831 or 727-7973 for more information.

Monday, June 21, was the official first day of summer. The celebrations of July are just around the corner. The Jamesport carnival is starting on Tuesday, July 6, at 6 p.m., and concluding with fireworks on Saturday, July 10. The parade will take place on Wednesday, July 7, at 7 p.m.

Old Steeple Community Church, Aquebogue, will be hosting its annual chicken barbecue on July 10, 4:30-7 p.m.. The tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12; they are available by calling 727-7224.

Congratulations to all the recent graduates from kindergarten to college! We hope you had a great year! I am learning to take time to enjoy the sights and smells of summer. Yesterday, Johanna and I followed this incredible sweet smell of wildflowers, only to find that it was the very invasive milkweed that I have worked years to keep out of my garden! We marveled at the intricate design and the sweet smell of these beautiful blooms. I decided to let some stay in the garden to bring back the monarch butterflies and enjoy this beautiful, fragrant flower.
