Johnnie Smith

Johnnie Smith, a lifelong resident of Riverhead, died May 29. He was 22.

He was born March 6, 1988, in Stony Brook to Patricia Trent. Mr. Smith graduated from Riverhead High School, where he consistently made the honor roll, in 2007. He went on to study criminal justice at Briarcliffe College, earning his associate degree in 2009.

He worked at the Gap store at Tanger Outlet Center in Riverhead and later became an assistant manager for Ecko, also at Tanger.

He played football all his life, and was captain of the Blue Waves during his senior year at Riverhead High School. According to his family, he also enjoyed running.

Mr. Smith is survived by his mother and his siblings, Tammy Price and Barbara Langhorne, both of Riverhead, Camelia Smith-Morgan of Jamesport, Lori, of Maryland, Kevin, of East Moriches, and Leonard, of Center Moriches.

The family received visitors June 3 at Unity Baptist Church in Mattituck prior to funeral services conducted by the Rev. Marvin Dozier. Interment followed at Riverhead Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
