John Melvin Langhorne
John Melvin Langhorne of Greenport, formerly of Riverhead, died June 5 at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He was 67.
Born Feb. 1, 1943, in Riverhead to Melvin and Mattie Langhorne, he was raised in Riverhead and Virginia.
He worked at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, as a police officer in Georgia and later as a truck driver. According to his family, he enjoyed cooking, fishing and hanging out with friends.
Mr. Langhorne is survived by his mother, of Riverhead; his children, Maxine Love, Maureen Simmons and Lorna, all of Riverhead, Lucy Anthony of Sumter, S.C., Robert Anthony of Greenville, S.C., Tamara, of Newburn, N.C., and Monica, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his siblings Rita Ross, Ellen Saunders-Coles, Dorothy, Elvane and Richard, all of Riverhead; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors June 8 prior to funeral services conducted by Pastor Roy Pennon at Galilee Church of God in Christ, Riverhead. Private cremation followed. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel of Riverhead.
