Well it’s June, friends and neighbors, and if your kids hadn’t been counting down the days left of school, you can bet they are now. The end of the school year is coming very quickly now, bringing me to a message to all soon-to-be graduates. While your graduation brings an end to your grade school career, please remember that you have a lot more life to live, and good decisions are crucial to your success. Celebrating your graduation with friends and family should be a joyous occasion, but not so joyous that you break the law by drinking and driving or risk your life or someone else’s.

This column was due on the heels of the last. My thanks to all who remembered to e-mail or call me right away. I know how hard it is to find time for yourself and I really appreciate that you took the time to get info to me.

Warm weather-pool/beach season is so much fun for kids, but let’s not forget about the dangers it brings. I’m sure I don’t have to remind everyone that pool and beach safety are priority No. 1 and if you have a pool in your backyard, NEVER leave a child unattended, not even for a minute. Make sure you have a gate that latches and locks and a pool alarm. If you’re at a beach, make sure your child swims only in areas that are monitored by lifeguards and that you yourself are watching them also.

The Riverhead Middle School 8th grade is going to Hershey Park on Saturday, June 5. We wish you a lovely, warm day. Enjoy! The Riverhead Middle School 8th grade National Jr. Honor Society students spent the day May 27 visiting the U.N., ground zero, St. Paul’s church and then dining at Jekyll and Hyde’s in NYC. Everyone had a great time. What a wonderful learning experience for the students and parents who attended.

This weekend the Big Duck flea market/craft fair is on Saturday, June 5, with a rain date of Sunday, June 6. All are invited to stop on down to the nest and see what’s being offered.

Don’t forget Spencer Shea’s fundraiser/pig roast at Four Doors Down in Mattituck, also on Saturday, June 5, starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are only $10 per person and can be obtained that day. Speaking of Spencer, I’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with him on Wednesdays the last few weeks and he’s doing fabulously! You really have to see him for yourself. It’s an absolute miracle how far he’s come and how much he’s recovered. I really hope to see you at the roast.

Happy sixth wedding anniversary to Chris and Penny Bonanno, who will celebrate on June 6. May you have many, many more years of happiness together.

Happy 18th birthday on June 4 to Quentin A. Henderson from your mom, dad, and big brother. They love you very much and hope you have a wonderful birthday.

That’s all for this week. Please don’t forget to call or e-mail me with any news you’d like to share. Have a wonderful weekend and please drive safely.
