A happy homecoming
U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Matt McArdle, a 2008 Riverhead High School graduate, is home on a three-week leave after serving in Afghanistan since November 2009. He is a motor transport mechanic stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; he’ll return to Afghanistan in May 2011. He’s pictured with his mother, Lisa McArdle-Abinette (from left), sisters Lauren and Ashley, and stepfather Jeff McArdle.

James Golden, his wife, Caroline and children Juliet, Heidi and Imogen, from Melbourne, Australia, vacationed in Riverhead for a couple of weeks in June, visiting their family Diane and Rick Wilhelm, Jim and Joan Golden, Janet Walsh, Maureen Talmage and Eileen Phieme. They all had a wonderful time sightseeing with the family in New York City, at Orient Beach State Park, the Village of Greenport and at the local beaches. It is wintertime in Australia, so they were happy to enjoy some summertime weather here. To top off the vacation, they enjoyed grandpa Jim Golden’s 79th birthday on June 15. They returned home to Melbourne on June 19. The family enjoyed their visit and can’t wait for the next one.
