Charles D. Turbush

Charles D. Turbush of Riverhead died there July 12 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 82.

He was born Oct. 28, 1927, to Arthur and Margaret (Turner) Turbush in Riverhead, where he was raised and graduated from high school in 1945.

Mr. Turbush married Doris Barnes in Riverhead on May 26, 1945. He worked for Local 1298 as a construction foreman for 32 years.

An amateur race car driver, he was featured on the wall of fame at Riverhead Raceway for his 37 career feature wins and one championship title. According to family, he also enjoyed bowling and softball and belonged to the Riverhead Moose Lodge.

Predeceased by his siblings, Agnes, Charlotte, Donny, Carl and Billy, Mr. Turbush is survived by his wife; his children, Buddy, of Orlando, Fla., Lolly and Kelly, both of Riverhead, Danny, of Aquebogue, Kathy, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Rusty, of Manorville; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive visitors today, Thursday, July 15, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, July 16, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
