Riverhead man slapped with DWI after allegedly trying to pick up teen

A Riverhead man was arrested for DWI in Greenport Friday night, after
a 14-year-old girl told Southold Police that he had attempted to pick
her up.

The girl said the man who approached her just after 8 p.m.
was driving a red Honda Civic. Police later found Ronald Eldridge, 43,
driving a car matching that description on Adams Street.

Police
said Mr. Eldridge’s breath smelled of alcohol and that they later
determined he was intoxicated. He was taken to police headquarters and
held for a morning arraignment.
