Charles H. Phelps Sr.

Former Riverhead resident Charles H. Phelps Sr. died July 20 at his home in Mastic after a long illness. He was 44.

He was born Oct. 12, 1965, to Charlie and Virginia (Dillard) Phelps in Riverhead, where he attended high school.

He later worked for 20 years for Southampton Dispatch Moving and Storage. He married Deborah Jenkins in Riverhead in 2000 and the couple relocated to Mastic.

Mr. Phelps was a member of First Baptist Church in Cutchogue. According to his family, he enjoyed racing cars and motorcycles and playing with his children.

Predeceased by his mother and siblings Ester and Ernest, he is survived by his wife; his father and stepmother, Marion; his children, Shayla Janay of Elizabeth, N.C., Quatajah Rennalls of Riverhead and Charles Jr. (CJ), of Mastic; stepchildren Dashara Shante and Antonio Jenkins; and siblings Sara, Patricia, Easter and Charlie, all of Riverhead, Mary and Marion, both of Cumberland, Va., and Aaron and James, both of Suffolk, Va.

Funeral services were held July 31 at First Baptist Church in Cutchogue. Cremation was private. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
