Caroline Zambrano

Caroline Zambrano of Riverhead died at Peconic Bay Medical Center Sept. 26. She was 88.

She was born Aug. 26, 1922, to Stephen and Margaret (Felix) Szerkal in Queens, where she was raised and attended school.

On Sept. 26, 1942, she married Vincent Zambrano.

She worked as a stenotypist for Mergenthaler in New York City and later as a veritypist in Bethpage.

She was a member of St. Mark R.C. Church in Shoreham and of the homemakers club. According to her family, she enjoyed knitting.

Predeceased by her husband in 1994, her sister Mary in 2008 and her daughter Carolyn in 2003, she is survived by her daughter Lauren McNally of Riverhead; siblings Rudy Szerkal and Margaret Napoli; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Family received visitors Sept. 28 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services were held Sept. 29 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
