Flood warnings issued for Riverhead

A flood watch will be in effect for eastern Suffolk County beginning at 2 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service has warned.
Heavy rain is expected to hit the area overnight, leaving as much as two to four inches of rainfall on the ground.
“This coupled with sustained winds of 25-35 mph with gusts of 50-60 mph will result in the possibility of flooding, downed tress and power outages,” according to a warning statement released Wednesday by Suffolk County Fire and Rescue.
Residents should prepare for this storm by securing all loose objects outside that may be blown around by wind, according to the Fire and Rescue statement. Should you experience a power outage contact LIPA at 1-800-490-0075 or 631-755-6900.
