Lorraine N. Schneider

Former Riverhead resident Lorraine Nolan Schneider, 89, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Park Terrace Nursing Home in Louisville, Ky.

She was born in Far Rockaway, N.Y., on Long Island. After graduating from Far Rockaway High School, she worked at the New York Times for several years.

She married William Schneider in 1948 and they settled in Bayside on Long Island. After Bill retired from NBC in 1982, they moved to Riverhead. She lived there until a couple of years after Bill’s death in 2000. She moved to Louisville to be near her daughter, Ann.

She was a Catholic and a member of St. Isidore R.C. Parish in Riverhead.

Ms. Schneider is survived by her daughter, Ann Jones (Jim Kidwell); granddaughter Denise Kappler (Burke) of Arlington, Va.; grandson Chris Jones (Amy) of Louisville; and great-grandchildren, Max and Rachel Kappler and Alexander and Ely Jones.

The funeral will be in Riverhead with burial at Calverton National Cemetery.
