Judge: Maertz can oppose LaValle
A State Supreme Court judge ruled Wednesday that Jennifer Maertz can run against Senator Ken LaValle in the November election.
Ms. Maertz, a Democrat, will replace Regina Calcaterra on the November 2 ballot, officials said.
“Today’s
decision in state Supreme Court rejected the ridiculous and frivolous
legal challenges by supporters of my opponent, and is an important win
for democratic choice,” Ms. Maertz said in a press release.
Ms.
Calcaterra’s campaign came to an end last month when a court found she
was ineligible to run for office due to residency requirements she did
not meet.
Ms. Maertz is a Rocky Point attorney who worked on Ms. Calcaterra’s campaign staff.
