Calverton: Riley Avenue Elementary hosts coat drive

Riley Avenue Elementary School’s before-school program is currently holding its 11th annual coat drive through Oct. 29. Donations of gently used men’s, women’s and children’s coats, jackets, vests, gloves, mittens, scarves and hats would be appreciated. Donations can be dropped off in the main lobby of the school. Do help out and make someone toasty-warm this winter.

Cub Scout Pack 44 would like to invite boys in grades 1-5 to run with the pack and join this great group. Call committee chair Tammy Furio at 886-1764. The Pack does so much good for others and it is so nice to be part of a team.

The highly anticipated annual Halloween parade will take place on Friday, Oct. 29, at 11:45 a.m. in the back field at Riley. This is the best parade, as everyone dresses up, including the staff.

The Riverhead Rotary Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast on Halloween, Sunday, Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. till noon. Included will be pancakes, sausage, eggs, fruit, coffee and orange juice. There will also be balloons, a clown, face painting and tattoos. Cost: adults, $12; seniors, $10; under 12, $8; under 3, free. Do go enjoy the tasty food while helping the community.

Wading River has a new resident. Grayson Gradischer was born on Oct. 5, weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measuring 20 inches long and is adorable. His proud mom and dad are Heather and Kevin Gradischer and his big sister is Ava, who loves him dearly. Peggy and Jim Angermaier are Grayson’s grandparents, as well as my good friends. Congratulations to all!

Happy anniversary to Carol and Jan Niewadomski, who celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary Oct. 13, from your son Jimmy and all your family and friends. Best wishes for many more happy years together. Anniversary wishes also to Felix and Dottie Pierczhanowski, who celebrated their 61st on Oct. 2. Everyone wishes you both the very best! Congratulations.

Belated happy birthday to Shania Moore, who turned 12 on Oct. 11, with love from your mom and everyone you know. Belated wishes are also sent to Jill Kruger, Oct. 14; Tara Cunningham, Oct. 16; and Alicia O’Connor, Oct. 20. To all you fine Riley Avenue ladies, happy birthday from your family and all your friends at Riley.

Well, the party’s almost over, the pumpkin party that is. Two more weekends and the East End turns its thoughts to Thanksgiving. There are still some great tomatoes out there, along with some terrific fall crops! Some green beans are even hanging on, so eat.

That’s all for this week. Remember, if you choose to carve your pumpkin rub the cut areas with Vaseline first so that they last a little longer. However, you’ll be better off waiting. Either way, have fun! Take care, be safe and I shall talk to you next week. Bye.
