Dorothy M. Poliwoda of Southold died on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, in Greenport. She was 91 years old.
She was born in Greenport on Feb. 20, 1919, to Alexander and Anna T. Gagen. A graduate of Greenport High School, she married Joseph W. Poliwoda on Jan. 12, 1941, in Southold.
Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and communicant of St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. She lived her entire life on the North Fork until moving to Southampton, Mass., in 1998.
Predeceased by her husband, Joseph, on July 25, 1997, she is survived by her children: Dorothy North of Sag Harbor, Margie Deroski of Southold and Beth Poliwoda of Southampton, Mass.; a sister, Eileen Raynor of New Suffolk; four grandchildren: Billy Durie-Poliwoda, Steven Florence, Cynthia North and Peter North; and four great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a brother, Russell Gagen, and a grandson, Jeff Florence.
The family received friends on Monday, Nov. 1, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 2, at St. Agnes R.C. Church by Father Thomas Murray. Interment was at St. Agnes R.C. Cemetery.
