Riverhead: Riverhead Free Library will collect mittens, gloves, socks and scarves

The Woman’s Club of Riverhead held a pizza and wine luncheon fundraiser at Diliberto Winery in Jamesport on Oct. 10. The event included homemade pizza from Sal Diliberto, wine, operatic arias and a generous donation to the club’s scholarship fund. Everyone had a marvelous time. A couple of projects they are working on include supplying two Thanksgiving food baskets in November and donating “Socks for Seniors” to a local senior center in December. Serving the community for 98 years, the club’s mission is “to award scholarships to graduating East End high school seniors looking to pursue a career in education, science/medical, music or the arts.”
Teens at The Loft at Riverhead Free Library recently made 28 dozen homemade dog biscuits for Kent and Riverhead animal shelters. Those who assisted received community service credit. RFL also offers many other programs to teens seeking community service credits for their school or church. For details, stop by or call the library at 727-3228. The teens also made 150 Veterans Day greeting cards for the veterans at North Shore Hospital. Thanks to RFL for all the programs they provide to newborns through 100-years-plus.
Spread the warmth! On Friday, Nov. 26, through Friday, Dec. 17, RFL will begin collecting new or handmade mittens, gloves, scarves or socks and hanging them on their mitten tree. The donations will then be brought to local agencies to distribute to needy children throughout the community.
The Friends of RFL support and enhance the resources of the library and are always looking for new members. Call the library if you would like to join, volunteer or attend a Friends meeting, which are held at the library on the first Monday of every month at 1 p.m.
