Flanders: Riverhead Community Blood Drive Dec. 7

Happy Thanksgiving, friends and neighbors. There is so much to be thankful for. I think sometimes the important things in life are often overlooked. Our freedom, for example. Yes, I know we have Veterans Day, but honestly how many people actually take the time on this day to reflect on all we’ve lost and all who have fought for our freedom and instead see it as a day off or as the last party of the “summer.” Thanksgiving is also supposed to be a time of reflection, though now it’s referred to as Black Friday Eve. If it were up to me I’d require all stores to be closed on Thanksgiving, but since I don’t have that kind of power I just won’t shop on that day. I’ll be home with my family.
The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau will host a “Glow in the Dark Night” for students in grades 6 and up on Friday, Dec. 3, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Southampton Youth Services, 1370A Majors Path. Come play glow-in-the-dark dodge ball, basketball or football and enjoy great music! Wear bright or white clothing. Admission is $5 per person. Snacks will be available for purchase. Free transportation is also available. For more information, call 702-2425, visit southamptontownny.gov/youthbureau or Facebook.
Mark your calendar. The Riverhead Community Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, Dec. 7, between 1 and 7 p.m. at the Riverhead Moose Lodge. Your help is greatly needed.
Belated happy 11th birthday to Autumn Worth on Nov. 10, from your mom and Jason. They hope you had a wonderful day and they both love you very much.
