Riverhead: High School Key Club fundraiser a success!

Harry and Louise Wilkinson enjoyed a week away on a magical mystery tour when a cruise to Bermuda they were on was rerouted to Charleston, S.C., Port Canaveral, Fla., and the Bahamas due to an impending hurricane. The trip was relaxing, with lots of warm weather and calm seas. This couple always enjoy being together. They know how to go with the flow and the storm didn’t dampen their spirits.
The lucky winner of the Teen Book Week raffle at “The Loft” at Riverhead Free Library was Ashley Colle, who won a Sony MP3 8G player donated by the Friends of the Library. Congratulations!
Riverhead Key Club members raised over $340 on Oct. 29 at Riverhead High School for Maureen’s Haven by sleeping in cardboard boxes and experiencing how it is to be homeless. Guest speaker Caren Heacock from Mattituck Presbyterian Church spoke to the students about the outreach program, which is in its ninth year and runs from Nov. 1 through April 1. The monies raised help to offset expenses affiliated with the caring churches, which take turns providing shelter and food. The Peconic Community Council works in collaboration with Maureen’s Haven. Those interested in volunteering in any capacity are asked to call 727-6831 for more information.
Key Club members are looking for donations of white tube socks. To donate, call adviser Louise Wilkinson at 463-5810 and she will make arrangements to get them to Maureen’s Haven.
Happy birthday to Vermona Brandon on Nov. 4; Art Thompson, Marge Lawrence, Barbara Vail and Laurie Koplinka, Nov. 5; Arianna Brooks, who turns 8 on Nov. 6, with love from Mom, Dad, Grandma Sue and Grandpa Kevin; Andrea Hill and Latasha Brunskill, Nov. 8; Claudette Tuttle, Erinn Pekar Bertha Kulesa (who turns 86) and Devin O’Rourke, Nov. 9; and Frederica Miles and Kate Luce, Nov. 10. Be sure to celebrate.
