After search, police find and charge man with shotgun

A Wading River man, who police said might have been suicidal, was arrested on a weapons charge Saturday night after he was reported to be carrying a sawed-off shotgun in the Riverhead area.

Riverhead Police said they found Robert Huber, 37, at his home on 15th Street with the shotgun following a lengthy canvass of the town which involved New York State Police, Suffolk County Police, New York State Park Police and the Wading River Fire Department.

Mr. Huber was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment of a laceration to his left wrist and also later charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was placed in the custody of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and was expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.
