Jennie Bokinz
Jennie Bokinz of Mattituck died Nov. 20 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 95.
Born Aug. 1, 1915, to Martin and Victoria Gatz, she had lived in Jamesport until five years ago, when she moved to her daughter’s Mattituck home.
Ms. Bokinz had worked for Hazeltine in Riverhead for 25 years. According to her family, she enjoyed baking, gardening, bingo and crocheting “and, later in life, watching SpongeBob SquarePants and doing puzzles with her great-grandsons.”
She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1988; her son, John, in 2008; and her siblings Victoria Holder, Clara Sieminski, Anna Ciaglo, Ainslee Kruk, Elizabeth Lawler and Walter, Bennie and Joseph Gatz. Ms. Bokinz is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Roache of Mattituck; her sisters Dorothy Duzsak of Connecticut, Helen Johnson of West Virginia, Ceil Prigatano of California and Mary Tassone of Staten Island; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors Nov. 22 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 23 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead by Father Robert Kuznik. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
