Calverton: Riley Avenue Elementary will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3

Soon it will be Christmas Day. I would like to wish each and every one of you a simply perfect Christmas and a very happy New Year! May your holidays be full of love and happiness.

The staff at Riley Avenue Elementary School would also like to wish their family and friends a happy and healthy Christmas and new year. School will be closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3 — a nice long break. I sure hope there’ll be lots of snow to play in.

Please remember: The annual Ryan Hautsch Memorial Brunch will take place on Sunday, Jan. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Jamesport Manor Inn. All proceeds will go to the Ryan Hautsch Scholarship Fund. Ryan was planning to become a chef. He left us at a very early time of life. Thanks once again to Matt Kar for being so generous and opening his doors for this event. Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for teens and $12 for children. Coffee, tea and soda are included. Do try to attend. For reservations and more information call 722-0500. Thank you in advance.

I would like to wish my daughter-in-law Jaime, and my son, Rob, who recently became parents, a very happy birthday. Jaime will celebrate on Dec. 27 and Rob Dec. 28. They are simply loving being parents and are doing a great job with little Julia. So, to the new mommy and daddy, we love you dearly and hope this year’s birthday is extra special.

Happy birthday to Karl Kohler, who now lives in sunny Florida, also on Dec. 28. We miss you and hope you have a nice, warm day.

Happy wedding anniversary to Peggy and Perk Perkins on Jan. 1. May you both enjoy the day. Congratulations.

Well my friends, this is my last column for 2010; the next one will be on Jan. 13. Time flies so quickly. Wasn’t it just the Fourth of July? Be safe, take care, and I shall talk to you next year. Bye.
