Glenwood Morris Jr.

Pastor Glenwood Morris Jr. of Ridge, formerly of Riverhead, died Nov. 29 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 53.

Born in Southampton Jan. 2, 1957, to Margie and Glenwood Morris, he graduated from Southampton High School in 1975 and later from C.W. Post University and the New York Theological Seminary.He married Deborah Jean Ballard on Aug. 15, 1981.

Mr. Morris owned and operated Morris Lawn Care and, in 1993, became pastor at St. Paul Community Church in Riverhead. He later founded Genesis International Ministries in Queens.

He served as vice president of the Southampton school board and, according to his family, was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman. Family members said “his infectious laugh and jovial spirit made him loved by all mankind.”

Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, of Brooklyn; his mother, of Southampton; his children, Canela Ryan of Medford, Makeba, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Glenwood III, of Ridge; his siblings, Joseph Shannon of Omaha, Neb., Pat Overton of Flint, Mich., Beatrice Brown of Moriches, Debrah Morris-Williams of Yaphank, Reginald, of Southampton, and William, of Riverhead; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Dec. 4 at Southampton Full Gospel Church by the Rev. Dr. Keith Pettus. Interment was at Southampton Cemetery.
