Helen Waite
Helen “Tommy” Waite passed away Jan. 25 at San Simeon by the Sound nursing home in Greenport at the age of 90.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1920, in Plainfield, N.J., to Edith (Williams) and Thomas Stacy. She graduated from Southold High School in 1937 and attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. In 1941, she married her high school sweetheart, Harry Waite. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. During the 1960s, she worked as a receptionist at North Fork Animal Hospital in Southold.
Predeceased by her husband in 1983 and her sister, Lee, in 2001, she is survived by her children, Barbara Neer of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Thomas Waite and Lynne Wentworth of Southold, who are missing her so very much. She is also survived by a niece, Leonie R. Symonds of Cliffside Park, N.J.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. in the Good Shepherd dining room at San Simeon by the Sound. Arrangements will be made by DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Donations may be made to San Simeon by the Sound, Mattituck Presbyterian Church or the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Peconic.
