The fourth annual Peconic Plunge, hosted by the Peconic Community Council Inc., will take place Saturday, Feb. 12, at Veterans Park in Mattituck, to benefit Maureen’s Haven Homeless Outreach Program, which provides temporary housing, a hot meal and personal items to people in need on the East End. The number of people needing this safety net has grown in hard financial times. The Peconic Community Council coordinates Maureen’s Haven, and it depends on funds raised by the Plunge to run the program.

You can help by asking people to sponsor you to jump into the icy waters of Peconic Bay Saturday. Veterans Park is located at the end of Bay Avenue in Mattituck. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.,; the Plunge is at 11 a.m. sharp. Afterward there will be a “survivors” party and an awards ceremony in the clubhouse. Prizes will be given for the most sponsorships raised by an adult, a youth under 18 and a clergy member.

All donations are tax-deductible; to get a sponsorship kit or for more information on how you can help, call 727-6831.
