Flanders: Community and reunion meetings and a job fair

Howdy, friends and neighbors! Now that we’ve “sprung ahead” clockwise, it’s time for the calendar to reflect that change. Spring actually becomes a reality this Sunday, March 20, at 7:21 p.m. Let’s see if Mother Nature agrees and keeps that warm weather flowing in our direction. Keep those fingers crossed.

A community meeting regarding the school tax equalization rate will be held on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at the David W. Crohan Community Center. This event is sponsored by the community associations and it is very important that residents attend. Hope to see you there.

The reunion committee of the Riverhead High School Class of 1986 is in the process of gathering e-mails, addresses and phone numbers from its alumni. To be added to the list e-mail John Graziano at [email protected] or myself at the e-mail above to make sure everyone knows where you are. If you’re one of those people who say “I’m not going to that,” please think about it again. We always have a such a wonderful time and would love to see as many alumni as possible. Plus, it’s not until August and, who knows, you might change your mind.

The Southampton Youth Bureau is preparing for its 10th annual Job and Internship Fair. If you are connected to a business in need of summer or year-round staff, or can provide a learning opportunity for interns, we encourage you to participate in this free job fair. To obtain a registration form, call 631-702-2421 or visit southamptontownny.gov/youthbureau to download one. RSVP by Monday, May 2. For questions or more information, call the Youth Bureau at 702-2421.

Join other area seniors for a corned beef and cabbage lunch on St. Patrick’s Day, today, Thursday, March 17, at noon at the David W. Crohan Community Center. Get there early for a seat. Bring a friend — everyone is Irish on St. Paddy’s Day! Call 631-728-1235 for more information.

My daughter and I attended the Teen Art Show at Riverhead Library last Friday night. It was awesome! The students at RHS are very talented. You must see it for yourself. Their artwork is on display downstairs in the library until March 28. Stop in and check it out. You’ll be amazed!

That’s all for this week. Thanks so much for all who called or e-mail me with news. I really appreciate it. Please remember to drive safely and slowly and also be aware that now that it’s going to be lighter out longer, kids will be outside playing longer and they don’t always think before they run. Remember to put those cell phones down. If you must take a call, pull over first. I can’t tell you how many people I see talking or texting while driving. It’s very frightening, so please stop! Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.
