Oscar Williams

Oscar Williams of Riverhead died March 5 at the age of 91.

Born June 1, 1919, in Charleston, S.C., he was raised by his aunt, Liller Mae Scott. He moved to Riverhead in 1959, and worked at Warner’s Potato Chip Factory and Wells Farm for many years.

According to family, he was a loving father and caring grandfather.

Mr. Williams was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Sanders), and six children, Robert, Harold, Leroy, Clarence, Geneva Lowe and Lula Mae Drayton.

He is survived by his children Oscar Jr., of Norfolk, Va.; James, Luther, Mattie Jenkins and Ethel LeMay, all of Riverhead; Charles, of Somerset, N.J.; Jake, of Edison, N.J.; Lily Heyward of Walterboro, S.C.; George, of North Charleston, S.C.; Ricky, Jean Hayes and Lula Washington, all of Yonges Island, S.C.; and Oscar Washington and Rebecca Logan, both of Cheriton, Va.; 72 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A service was held March 11 at Friendship Baptist Church in Riverhead, led by the Rev. A. Charles McElroy. Interment was at Riverhead Cemetery. Arrangements were in the care of Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
