Police: Man urinated on woman, then tried to suffocate her

A 47-year-old Riverhead man was arrested last Wednesday after he urinated on and then tried to suffocate a female acquaintance at a Riverhead apartment complex, according to police.

The woman told police Melvin Trent grabbed her, held her down to a bed, urinated on her and then tried to cover her face with a pillow at her home in the Riverpointe Apartments on East Main Street. The victim was not seriously injured during the ordeal.

After the incident, Mr. Trent left the home and the victim reported the crime at Riverhead Police Headquarters, which is less than a quarter mile from the apartment complex, about 8 p.m.

Mr. Trent was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, second-degree harassment and criminal obstruction of breathing. He was also found to be in violation of an order of protection.

He was taken to police headquarters and held overnight for arraignment.
