George Aleksandrowicz

George Aleksandrowicz, 91, a resident of Riverhead for 46 years, died at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead on Feb. 24.

Born in Poland March 10, 1919, he married the former Irene Wurm in Poland on Dec. 26, 1950. He and his family later came to Riverhead, where he worked as a foreman for a landscaping company for 30 years.

He was an usher at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead, and family members said his hobbies included gardening, winemaking and fishing. He landed the largest cobia in the annual Key West Fishing Tournament two years in a row, they said.

Mr. Aleksandrowicz is survived by his wife and brother Henry, both of Poland; his sons, Benny, of Florida, and Andrzej and George, both of Riverhead; his daughters, Donna, of Riverhead, and Margaret, of Florida; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours took place Feb. 27 and 28 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services were conducted March 1 at St. Isidore R.C. Church, followed by interment at the church cemetery.

An obituary in the March 3 edition incorrectly reported that George Aleksandrowicz, 91, had died in Poland on Feb. 24. A resident of Riverhead for 46 years, he died at Peconic Bay Medical Center and his wife remains a resident of Riverhead, not of Poland, as incorrectly reported.
