Calverton: Civic meeting April 14 at Riley Ave. Elementary

If you look real closely, you just might find that your parsley has come back from last year, which is awesome indeed. And if you planted celery, as my mom did, you might find that, too, is alive and well. The rhubarb is also growing quickly, too, so all we need to do now is feed our plant survivors and good things will happen a little more rapidly. Get going!

I had the pleasure of talking with Adolph Breitenbach, who, for many years, had a farm stand in Aquebogue at which my grandmother Lucy Troyan worked. When I tell you he and I could probably talk for weeks, I’m not kidding. Adolph now lives in Texas and has a nice farm down there with six tractors and he still loves farming, which he does very well. He gives away everything he grows and nothing goes to waste. The best thing for him is the warmth (he does not miss the cold weather). So, Adolph, faithful News-Review reader, it was my pleasure talking to you. Keep us updated on all the goings-on in Texas.

Calverton Civic Association’s next meeting is Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m. at Riley Avenue Elementary School. Calverton residents who would like to become well-informed about all the events in our fine town can join the association for $15 a year. If you would like to participate in improving our community, call Rex Farr at 369-8237. He will be more than glad to help you, but do come to the meeting and see what this civic association is all about.

Riley will be celebrating Earth Week at the end of the month. Lots of fun things are being planned for the students during this important time. Stay tuned. And joy of joys, school will be closed for spring recess April 18-25. I hope everyone has a great, relaxing time.

The students and staff at Riley are also busy preparing for the very important ELA assessment tests, which will be given in the beginning of May. Good luck to all.

Get-well-soon wishes to Charles Niegocki, from your wife, your daughter, Joan, and all of us. We hope you get well very soon, Charles.

Belated happy birthday to George Buckingham Jr., who celebrated on April 9, from Jessica, Boo Boo (the ever-faithful puppy), your dad, George, and all of us. We hope you had a really great birthday.

Happy 27th wedding anniversary to Patti and Rowland Hautsch, Thursday, April 14, from your daughter, Jessica, your perfect cat, Gray, and all your family and friends. We wish you a simply wonderful day. Congratulations.

That is all. Have a great week, be safe and I shall talk to you next time. Bye.
