Shoreham-Wading River: Students’ community projects
Here’s hoping that all celebrations of Passover and Easter were lovely. Shoreham-Wading River area churches had some beautiful liturgies with downright heavenly music this past weekend, making the celebration of Easter very special and moving.
This time of year often brings to mind the thought of spring cleaning. A cleanup was definitely on the mind last week for the Wading River Fire Department Explorers. On April 16, this group of young people cleaned up along Randall Road, from 25A all the way to North Country Road. The Explorers filled bags and bags of trash that was scattered along the roadside while Mike Hammer of Wading River Fire Department led the way in a fire-safety vehicle. The group included Michael Cummings, Thomas Cummings, Sean Logan, Evan Purdy, Jacob Stumm and Joseph Whelan, all of them 10th-graders at Shoreham-Wading River High School. Congratulations to these young people for taking the initiative to beautify the community. Students interested in joining the Explorers should contact WRFD at 929-4294.
Shoreham-Wading River High School students Ally Merzbacher and Alyssa Neidhart, members of the community relations class, have decided to undertake a special task, too: they’re organizing a clothing drive at the high school from now until the end of May. Two boxes are located in the lobby of the school, where students may drop off items of clothing, new or gently used, to be given to Big Brothers and Big Sisters. You would be surprised how much your items can help someone in need. For information, call 821-8184.
A belated happy birthday wish to Riannon Shea, who turned 5 on April 17. Her parents, Maureen and Rob Shea, had a wonderful celebration for her. Belated birthday wishes also to Frank McNeill, who celebrated on April 23 (you are an angel, Frank), and to Annemarie McNeill, an “angel always on the run,” who celebrated on April 26.
If you have news of birthdays, anniversaries or anything else you’d like to share with the community, my contact information is above. Thanks to all who have sent me scoops and tips to print. Your input is very much appreciated.
Until we meet again here next week, be safe and happy.
