Helen Alexander

Helen Alexander of Flanders died April 24 at Westhampton Care Center. She was 79.

She was born in Greenport on May 10, 1931, to Blair and Ruth Young of Laurel and was raised at the family homestead there. After she married Kenneth Alexander in 1953, they continued to live in Laurel, where she was a homemaker for most of her adult life.

Predeceased by her husband in 1986, Ms. Alexander is survived by her daughters, Carol Van Houten and Nancy, both of Flanders, and Linda; her brother, John Young of Connecticut; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will take place Friday, April 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery, where interment will follow. Arrangements were in the care of McLauglin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
